What: The Broach Foundation for Cancer Research Gala
Where: River Oaks Country Club
PC Moment: If indeed laughter is the best medicine, the 400-plus guests packing the country club ballroom went home feeling uplifted thanks to the humor of comedian Nate Bargatze, Comedy Central Presents and Netflix star and author of This Guy Is Hilarious, No Really, He Is.
The guy had the crowd roaring with laughter.
Applause, applause for chair Jamie Broach Byrd, who led the effort that raised more than $556,000 for brain cancer research. Since its inception seven years ago, this event has raised more than $4.5 million, an effort launched by the late James Broach.
He and his wife, Jamie, created the foundation in 2011 when he was diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer. James Broach lost his life to the disease in 2013 but not before establishing the foundation to help fund brain cancer research.
