The Renaissance Festival Hits Houston
Buffalo Bayou Bash Brings the Medieval Party into the City
By Shelby Hodge //
What: Bayou Preservation Association‘s “Merriment on the Bayou” soiree
Where: The Buffalo Bayou tributary home of Dr. Mary Shinn and Richard Andrassy
PC Moment: Characters and performers from the Sherwood Forest Faire in Bastrop and the Texas Renaissance Festival provided authenticity to the evening which found most of the 250 guests decked out in Robin Hood and Renaissance togs. Jesters, jugglers, stilt walkers, troubadours and buxom maidens mixed amid the very merry crowd.
Adding to the festivities was Zara the Belly Dancer and her Gypsy Band, bagpiper Jason Gunn and familiar faces such as Maid Marian, Friar Tuck, Little John and Robin Hood. Chairs Elaine Finger, Anna Holliday and Shinn costumed appropriately for the occasion.
The merry makers dined on fare from Carrabba’s Original, strode the banks of the bayou tributary and bid on an array of related auction items contributed by Austin Canoe & Kayak and REI.
Who: Meredith and Fielding Cocke, Mark Sullivan, Judy and Rodney Margolis, Diane Lokey Farb, Marvy Finger, Lynn Kelly, Alexander Cocke, Laura Hunter, Kathy and John Linker, Ron Fuller, Carol Brejot, Lynn and Ty Kelly, Skylar Bean, and Laurie Andrassy.
