What: The 25th Annual Silver Supper benefiting the Dallas Museum of Art‘s Decorative Arts Acquisition Endowment Fund

Where: The Dallas Museum of Art

PC Moment: From the lush, green foliage enveloping the atrium – designed by floral master Sara Fay Egan – to the soft music during cocktails from the Dallas String Quartet, the silver anniversary of the Silver Supper seemed to be the most elegant yet.

The annual black tie event celebrated more than a few milestones, including the 75th anniversary of the Hoblitzelle Foundation, the retirement of its devoted president and CEO, Paul Harris, and a record amount raised for the Dallas Museum of Art’s Decorative Arts Acquisition Endowment Fund.

Fortunately, the landmark year was in the hands of co-chairs Rusty Duvall, and Peggy Sewell, who greeted the evening’s 225 guests alongside the DMA’s Eugene McDermott director Augustin Arteaga, board chairman Melissa Foster Fetter, and board president Catherine Marcus Rose as they made their way down the concourse.

Full-length portraits of the original owners of the silver collection, Esther and Karl Hoblitzelle, hung in the Hamon foyer, on display along with the evening’s signature piece: 18th century silversmith Paul de Lamerie’s Covered Cup.

In addition to one of the most impressive silver holdings in America and a generous foundation, the Hoblitzelles left behind a legacy of legendary Dallas dinner parties in the 1930s and ‘40s.

In that spirit, the custom fretwork screen concealing the atrium was opened to reveal a glistening silver setting for dinner. Guests found their tables, adorned with tea roses, white delphiniums, and pieces from the museum’s silver collection as pianist Bob Goodwin played atop a stage in the center of the room.

As the first course of Maine lobster salad with romesco vinaigrette was served, the party raised a glass in honor of the Hoblitzelles and another dinner party for the books.
