What: Maison Francis Kurkdjian presents Christelle Boulé’s “Expanded Drops”

Where: Neiman Marcus

PC Moment: The cool confines of Neiman Marcus in The Galleria was host to a cool cocktail party celebrating the work of Christelle Boulé, a Swiss-Canadian photographer and artist. Boulé has famously shot Maison Francis Kurkdjian’s heavenly fragrances as museum-quality art works throughout her multifaceted career.

Upon arrival, guests strolled through the exhibition admiring a collection of 75 prints showcasing Maison Francis Kurkdijan’s perfumes as photographed by Boulé. Each piece was matched with its fragrance so guests could smell a particular perfume while studying its appropriate print.

The luxury designer handbag department was transformed into a walkable gallery, provoking meaningful conversation between fragrances, photography and art-lovers – a dynamic showcase for her works. Boulé incorporates olfaction in her photos, a technique integrating scent as a crucial part of her medium. The finished product is a print, capturing a droplet of perfume on archival paper, blown up to vibrant abstraction. Maison Francis Kurkdjian president and co-founder Marc Chaya chatted with attendees about this unique process, which was fully realized by the interactive nature of the exhibit.

Chilled bubbly and bites from Neiman Marcus’ Mariposa restaurant were served. As the night came to an end, prints were sold through the department store.

The Switzerland-born Boulé sparked an interest in perfumes in college when she earned her bachelor’s degree in graphic design in Montreal, before earning her masters degree in artistic direction in her hometown of Lausanne, Switzerland. Towards the completion of her degree, Boulé introduced her photos to Francis Kurkdjian himself, which began a long and fruitful working relationship between Boulé and the French perfumer.
