What: Blaffer Gala: Flora Obscura.
Where: Blaffer Art Museum.
Who: Chairs Jo and Jim Furr, and Marc Melcher; honorees Lisa and Russell Sherrill; Blaffer director Claudia Schmuckli; supporters Beth Madison, Anne Brown, Philamena Baird, Marita and J.B. Fairbanks, Jereann Chaney, and Gretchen and Andrew McFarland.
PC Moment: As a sweet surprise for Jo, a screening was held of a Flora Obscura-themed short film starring three Houston Ballet dancers and choreographed by Oliver Halkowich. More than a dozen large 19th-century Turkish Oushak rugs from Carol Piper Rugs in shades of peach provided a stunning setting for a seated dinner from Jackson and Company. Schmuckli curated a stellar silent auction with works from Trenton Doyle Hancock, William Powhida, Analia Saban and Bret Shirley. The evening raised more than $300,000 for the University of Houston’s contemporary art gallery.
