What: Children at Risk’s “Big Brunch: Building Blocks to the Future – A Celebration of Early Childhood”
Where: The Ballroom at Bayou Place
PC Moment: As many as 300 enthusiasts joined the midday fête where delicious brunch fare tempted even the most calorie conscious. Manning the food stations were reps from Houston restaurants 1751 Sea and Bar, Ballroom at Bayou Place Catering, Bludorn, Calavera Golfstrommen, Chivos, Frank’s Americana Revival and Heads & Tails Seafood. In the people’s favorite contest the winner was Heads & Tails Seafood’s shrimp and grits entrée from chef Roy Burks.
Helming the program and presentation of honorees were Children at Risk president and CEO Bob Sanborn and KPRC Channel 2’s Khambrel Marshall. Recognized as champions of early childhood education were Collaborative for Children, SEARCH’s House of Tiny Treasures and Small Steps Nurturing Center. Taking bows as chairs of the event that raised $150,000 were chairs Laura and Steve Jones.
Part of the fun was a Best Hat contest with honors going to Krista Frazier, Anne Newer and Janette Marx.
