That darling Zac Posen: What could the ladies, lunching in a fashion show setup on the second floor of Neiman Marcus with the once-upon-a-time wunderkind of fashion who has now matured into the darling of the fashionable social set, say?
“Oo-la-la” would be a good start as models in Posen’s shimmering, red carpet-ready ball gowns strode down the runway.
“He’s so cute,” echoed through the stylish clutch, hosted by Neiman’s GM Stephen Brunelle and belle of the midday fête Kristina Somerville, who was drop dead gorgeous in a bold form-fitting sheath from Posen’s current collection. Equally glam in a Posen crisp white shirt with black and blue beading, further dressed up with Chanel baubles, was Lynn Wyatt who had hosted a tea for the New York based designer the day before, inviting some of his best Houston clients.
Flanked by Somerville and Wyatt, the designer, who would turn 39 on the following day, was asked to explain his youthful appearance. He tries to eat healthy. He tries to keep fit. “Try is the operative word here, ” Wyatt quipped.
Posen says that he drinks little. And, since the start of a loving partnership more than 11 years ago, he has stayed out of the sun. His partner abhors the sun and is heavily into serious skincare.
Few if any designer could be busier than Posen. Not only does he have two lines of his own, he also designs for Brooks Brothers and in the spring of 2018, he introduced a new uniform collection for all of Delta Airlines uniformed employees. That would be more than 64,000 uniforms. In all, the CFDA award winner allowed that he creates 15 collections each year including the White One wedding collection, and for Brooks Brothers.
On this day, before jetting back to New York for a quiet birthday celebration, Posen was wearing his “uniform,” a tailor made Brooks Brother navy suit, a blue denim shirt and a navy Prada tie. He allowed that he wears Brooks Brothers every day.
And following the lunch of a spicy squash soup and chicken with risotto, washed down the the ladies’ choice of champagne, chardonnay or flavored tea, Posen was on a flight home to New York, but not before Somerville led the throng in singing “Happy Birthday” to the soon-to-be birthday boy.
