This post is dedicated to the memory of my Dad, Harry D. Anspon, and the power of self-taught artists everywhere. Enjoy these felines from his show last summer at G Gallery, Houston.

Ninety-six-year-old scientist Harry D. Anspon turned to art-making, specifically drawing, in 2012. His subject: cats, a topic he knows close hand, having adopted nearly 20 pet felines since his childhood. This G Gallery show marks Anspon’s exhibition debut; his work was published in the 2014 Arts in Aging Calendar for Huffington Center, Baylor College of Medicine (alongside such notable talents as Kermit Oliver, H.J. Bott and Arthur Turner). Houston gallerist Barbara Davis selected the suite of 20 works for this show from a portfolio of approximately 200 drawings to date.
