Tony Award-winner Brian Stokes Mitchell will be the featured performer at the DSM 2017 Gala.
Today, Dallas Summer Musicals announced that it will welcome two-time Tony Award-winner and Theater Hall of Fame member, Brian Stokes Mitchell as the new featured performer at the 2017 DSM Gala on November 4, 2017. The versatile actor and singer will be joined by a surprise Broadway guest, yet to be announced.
The previously announced featured performer, Bernadette Peters, has been cast in the lead role of “Hello, Dolly!” on Broadway, preventing her from making an appearance at the Dallas event. But, as the saying goes, the show must go on – and Dallas Summer Musicals has ensured that this show will not be one to forget.
Brian Stokes Mitchell, called “the last leading man” by the New York Times, has had a vibrant career spanning theater, television, film and concert appearances (including two at the White House). The award-winning actor and performer was inducted to the Theatre Hall of Fame last year. His musical stylings range from jazz to opera to pop to country, and he has appeared on more than 20 albums to date. He plans to release his latest album, Plays With Music, this fall.
“Mr. Stokes is an exceptional choice and we can’t wait for our guests to experience an unforgettable performance,” Dallas Summer Musicals 2017 Gala chair Paul von Wupperfeld said in a statement.
The Dallas Summer Musicals 2017 Gala, dubbed An Evening with the Best of Broadway, is a celebration of musical theater and the non-profit organization, which champions the art in Dallas. Proceeds will support DSM’s education and community outreach programs, such as DSM High School Musical Theatre Awards, Seats for Vets, Seats for Kids, Kid’s Club, Hear Us Now! And DSM Community Performance.
In addition to extraordinary entertainment, the gala will include a cocktail bar reception and a seated dinner at the storied Music Hall at Fair Park.
Individual dinner and show tickets are available online at www.DallasSummerMusicals.org.
