Framed: Surreal in Dallas

BY Catherine D. Anspon // 02.24.15

5If the name Michaël Borremans conjures nothing more than a blank canvas in your art-world lexicon, you’re not alone. Expect that to change Sunday, March 15, when the Dallas Museum of Art mounts the only U.S. showing of the traveling international mid-career survey for Borremans.

Co-organized by the DMA and Center for Fine Arts, Brussels (BOZAR), the in-depth exhibition introduces the contemporary master via 50 paintings, 40 drawings and five films in a show smartly titled “Michaël Borremans: As sweet as it gets.”

The hottest ticket will be Borremans’ talk with exhibition curator Jeffrey Grove (the DMA’s former senior curator of special projects and research). The tête-à-tête — set for Thursday, March 12, 7 pm, at the museum — promises more insight into the strange, beguiling world of Borremans. Is it any accident that this painter hails from the same land as Magritte? This specially ticketed exhibition runs March 15 through July 5. For more, pick up our April print edition.
