The books on our shelves reveal so much about who we are, where we’ve been, and who we might become. Books can also be art, appreciated for their beauty as much as their literary value. Thatcher Wine, founder of Juniper Books, has devoted his career to helping people define themselves through books, by building one-of-a-kind and rare collections and private libraries around he world.
The company offers book sets, subscriptions and customization services including “Off-the-Shelf” custom book jackets that create dramatic design statements when placed side-by-side.
A favorite among interior designers, Juniper Books has styled shelves for celebrities such as Oprah Winfrey and Gwyneth Paltrow, along with libraries for thousands of private homes, yachts, hotels such as The NoMad NYC, and retail stores such as Kiehl’s. His 2016 TED Talk “The Books We Keep, The Stories We Tell,” encouraged people to look at books as a reflection of who they are and who they aspire to be.
Now, Wine has co-authored a tome on the wordy subject with Elizabeth Lane. For the Love of Books Designing and Curating a Home Library (Gibbs Smith, $50) provides detailed chapters on creating and curating a home library, whether it’s a single shelf or an entire room. He also highlights the history of books and private libraries, and delves into why books have remained resilient in the digital era.
Meet Thatcher Wine while he’s in Dallas at Interabang Books for a discussion and book signing this Thursday, October 17, at 6pm. Call 214.484.4289 to reserve books the day of signing. Interabang Books, 10720 Preston Road, Suite 1009B.
