TUTS Brings “The Bridges of Madison County” Musical to Houston
By Sharon L. Taylor //
You may be familiar with The Bridges of Madison County from either the best-selling novel or the 1995 Clint Eastwood/Meryl Streep movie. But did you know that a musical adaptation won Tony Awards for best score and best orchestrations in 2014? Now Theatre Under The Stars has brought the romance to Houston, with sweeping music by Tony-winning composer Jason Robert Brown (Parade, The Last Five Years), book by Pulitzer Prize winner Marsha Norman (The Secret Garden, The Color Purple) and direction by Tony winner Bartlett Sher (South Pacific, The Light in the Piazza). The cast of the national tour is led by Broadway veterans Elizabeth Stanley (On the Town, Million Dollar Quartet, Cry-Baby, Company) as Francesca and Andrew Samonsky (The Mystery of Edwin Drood, Scandalous, South Pacific, the American premiere of The Hunchback of Notre Dame) as Robert.
