Dallas weekends are packed full of events, but how many of them are truly worthy of your time? PaperCity‘s new events calendar offers a curated look at all of the best things to do in the area. But everyone can still use an expert.

Movie Mania

The Oak Cliff Film Festival begins this Thursday, June 6 and ends on Sunday, June 9. Don’t miss out on the 28 movies playing at this year’s fest.

There will be 13 Texas premieres including the highly-anticipated film from Danny Boyle, Yesterday. The film follows a struggling singer-songwriter, Jack (Himesh Patel), in an English seaside town whose dreams of fame are rapidly fading, despite the fierce devotion and support of his childhood best friend, Ellie (Lily James). After a freak accident, Jack wakes up to discover that The Beatles have never existed and begins to perform the songs as his own.

Movies will show at the Texas Theatre, The Kessler, The Bishop Arts Theatre, Wild Detectives, El Sibil and Top Ten Records. You can buy a badge for the whole weekend or individual tickets here.

Watch Dirk Play Baseball

For the eighth year in a row, Dirk Nowitzki is hosting his annual Heroes Celebrity Baseball Game. The Dallas legend will be joined by Dallas Cowboys Dak Prescott, Zeke Elliot, Jaylon Smith and Tyron Smith. Mavs owner Mark Cuban will also be playing with players Dwight Powell, Devin Harris, and Courtney Lee. And New York Knicks point guard Dennis Smith Jr. (the former Mav) is also participating.

The event will take place at Dr Pepper Ballpark in Frisco at 7:30 pm on Friday, June 7. Tickets are available starting at $11.

Taste Dallas

It seems that there is always something food related going on during Dallas weekends, but the Taste of Dallas is one of the biggest and most compelling. From Friday, June 7 to Sunday, June 9, Taste Dallas features foods from restaurants all around the city at the Dallas Market Center. Restaurants participating include Tulum, Perle on Maple, CBD Provisions, Mesero, and more.

Whiskies of the World will be a new experience and features 200 types of whiskey. The Foodie Experience is on Friday night from 7 pm to 10 pm and is 21 years and up only. General admission for The Foodie Experience is $75 and admission for Taste of Dallas is $12 online, $20 at the gate.

Get Psychedelic

Dallas’ immersive and interactive art experience is back for round two. Psychedelic Robot debuted in 2018 as a pop-up experience, but ended up staying open for three sold-out months. It’s now back for Psychedelic Robot 2.0 starting this Friday, June 7.

The 13,000 square foot space is at the Crescent Hotel in suite 154. The show hosts multimedia installations from local and International artists including sculpture, fashion, video, music, painting, and more.

Get tickets now for $35 online. Time slots are available on Fridays from 5 pm to 10 pm, Saturdays from 1 pm to 10 pm, and Sundays from 12 pm to 6 pm.

Psychedelic Robot 2.0 opens this Friday.

This Thursday, June 6 through Sunday, June 9, Neiman Marcus Willow Bend is hosting the first gallery exhibit in the United States from Parisian fragrance company Maison Francis Kurkdjian. It will feature photography from Swiss Canadian artist, Christelle Boulé. “Expanded Drops” will feature Maison fragrances that have been exposed and developed like photographs, a visual representation of fragrances known as olfaction.

The free event is located at The Shops at Willow Bend in Plano, on Level Two, during regular store hours. The VIP Gallery launch party will be from 5 pm to 7 pm on June 6. Prints will also be available for purchase through Neiman Marcus.

On Friday, June 7 only, Ashley Pittman Collection will be hosting a sample sale from 11 am to 5 pm at The Slate. The sale will feature handcrafted, one-of-a-kind pieces and new collection styles at up to 80 percent off. Ashley Pittman began her jewelry business after a trip to Rwanda with the Clinton HIV/AIDS Foundation in 2006.

She has helped employ more than 75 artisans in Kenya, and provides them with fair wages, expansion opportunities and business development training. The beautifully handcrafted jewelry is made using a variety of repurposed materials and stones indigenous to East Africa.

Party for a Cause

This Saturday, June 8 at The Empire Room is the The White Party: Havana Nights. Dress in all white and join the Young Friends of Wilkinson Center for cocktails, bites, a raffle, photo booth and tunes by DJ Jason Wiggz.

Wilkinson Center is dedicated to transforming the lives of Dallas families by providing pathways to self-sufficiency with dignity and respect through adult education and food emergency assistance. The Young Friends of Wilkinson Center is a group of dynamic young professionals between the ages of 24 and 25 committed to empowering those in need.

Individual tickets are $125.

Laugh, Rock, Sing

Broad City star Illana Glazer is performing at Granada Theater this Saturday, June 8 and Sunday, June 9. The comedian is known for writing honest and raw characters and comedy about ordinary women. In her stand-up act, she’ll explore the strength, complexity, and imperfection of womanhood.

Both dates will have early and late shows at 7 pm and 10 pm.

Ilana Glazer
This weekend, Ilana Glazer will do four stand-up shows at the Granada.

The newest and coolest music venue in Deep Ellum is Canton Hall. And Australian pop artist Betty Who will be performing there this Saturday, June 8. A rebellious queen, she walked away from her record deal to make her first independent album. Her hits include “If You’re Hearing This,” “I Love You Always Forever,” and “Old Me.”

For every ticket sold, a dollar will be donated to The Trevor Project and their work providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to LGBTQ youth. Tickets are available for $26 here.

Aladdin is making a comeback with the newest live action Disney movie starring Will Smith. Dallas has also got a live performance taking place at the Music Hall at Fair Park this weekend starting Thursday, June 6. A hit Broadway musical, Aladdin will be at Dallas Summer Musicals until June 23.
