Since Spooky Season is my favorite, I am taking over my colleague Melissa Smrekar’s Dallasite About Town this month with all things autumn-themed, Halloween, pumpkin patches, and beyond. This curated round-up includes our absolute top must-do activities and events, including haunted hotels, Hocus Pocus, Dracula, and more, now through November 1.

Pick Up Sweets at CocoAndré Chocolatier

After three years, Dallas chocolate shop CocoAndré has reopened in a new home at 423 Centre Street in Oak Cliff. Swing by this season for Halloween and Día de los Muertos (The Day of the Dead)-themed creations. Choose from chocolate bats, pumpkins, witches, ghosts, and sugar skulls.

A spooky attraction at Galleria Dallas, The BooMont Hotel has reopened through November 1 to delight visitors with two brand-new rooms. Since last year’s debut, a ghost pool, a haunted mirror maze, and a master key scavenger hunt with 13 stops have been added to the experience. Guests will enter through the refurbished lobby, still decorated in the golds and greens that delighted guests in 1901. Elevators transport guests through the hotel, where older children and adults can expect the unexpected as they navigate through mysterious rooms, interactive spaces, and imaginative photo opportunities.

Spend Autumn at the Arboretum

The Dallas Arboretum is always a must-visit during the fall season. Starting on September 19, Autumn at the Arboretum will feature a Harvest Hues-themed Pumpkin Village with six houses that translate the signature styles of modern and contemporary artists into pumpkins, gourds, squash, and harvest materials. “Inspiration includes Mondrian’s primary color blocking rebuilt block by block in pumpkins, a towering, spindly spider inspired by Bourgeois perched atop its own house, and Pollock’s controlled chaos interpreted through the many shapes, sizes, and colors of gourds.”

Worth the trip up north, Denton is known as the Halloween Capital of Texas. All October long, the downtown square is decked out in spooky decor. Hundreds of events, art installations, and themed celebrations take place during the month, including ghost tours, haunted houses, family-friendly movie nights, and so much more.

**Experience Disney’s Hocus Pocus in Concert Live to Film**

From October 9 through 11, Jacob Joyce will conduct the spooky-season 1993 classic Hocus Pocus in Concert Live to Film. The Dallas Symphony Orchestra will perform John Debney’s score live to the film that takes place in modern-day Salem. If you haven’t seen the movie, three 17th-century witches called the Sanderson sisters are accidentally brought back to life by some of the town’s children. Find tickets here.

Dallas’ Avant Chamber Ballet will perform a theatrical ballet of Phillip Glass’s Dracula at Moody Performance Hall on October 30 and 31. The world premiere is directed by Katie Puder, and the score, created by Glass to accompany the 1931 horror film, will be performed live. Purchase tickets here.

Día de los Muertos Oak Cliff

Speaking of CocoAndré, the beloved chocolate shop returns to host this Día de los Muertos celebration on November 1 at its new location. Founded by CocoAndré co-owner Cindy Pedraza, the annual celebration brings the Oak Cliff community together with traditional performances, local vendors, food and drinks, face painting, altar displays, and more.
