Brad Paisley Steals a Girl’s iPhone at Houston Rodeo, Scrolls Through the Pics and Captures an Entire City’s Heart

The Country Star With Mad Guitar Skills is Funny Too

BY // 03.17.19

“This ain’t my first rodeo” went the chorus to Brad Paisley’s opening song “Bucked Off.” And that’s for sure. Saturday night marked Paisley’s 13th Rodeo Houston performance.

Year after year, Paisley comes back to impress and entertain the crowds, and this year was no different as he rocked, serenaded, and hung out with 74,929 of his closest Houston friends.

The musician has got mad guitar skills, and he certainly showcased them at the Houston Rodeo. At times, it seemed the concert was almost edging on the side of rock. Between his 10-plus guitar changes and his insane picking on those guitars, it’s clear that guitar reigns supreme for the Paisley sound.

Yet Paisley let the fiddle take center stage when he brought out his old 2011 hit “Old Alabama.” The NRG Stadium crowd recognized the modern-meets-classic country song and was all about it. Fans cheered and sang along to every word.

Halfway through the song, Paisley took it up a notch – as he is so very good at doing. Instead of staying on stage, he walked off the stage and went up to his fans in the stands (who of course pulled out their phones and took numerous selfies).

The country star circled round the stadium, high-fiving the awe-struck spectators. The night was off to a strong start for the Houston Rodeo veteran.

After singing and playing more of his fun and upbeat songs, including “Water,” “Perfect Storm” and “River Bank,” Paisley took a step back to slow things down a bit to serenade Houston with “Today.”

Before beginning he told them, “This is one of my favorite gigs ever, every year. One of my favorite cities in the world. You have been through so much, but here we are, alive in 2019 – how ‘bout that?”

Everyone cheered, and maybe shed a tear or two. And as thousands of cellphone lights illuminated and waved within the darkened arena, the night became pure Paisley magic. To cap it off, he raised his cowboy hat to salute the crowd at the end. Fans sighed and swooned as Paisley caught his breath just before bringing the beat right back up to full speed.

Brad Paisley Goes Comedian

Yet the highlight of the evening definitely came with the song “I’m Still a Guy.” In the middle of the tune, Paisley steps off stage (again) to play to his fans on the arena floor. And (again) the fans have all lifted their phones to document it all on camera.

But one fan in particular won the golden ticket, as Paisley took her phone and turned it to take a selfie with her and her friends. There was much screaming among them. And much laughter from the crowd, especially when he decided to joke around a bit.

“Let’s see what a Texas girl has on her iPhone,” he said. “A lot of pictures of me. Pictures of cows. Pictures of… nevermind.” The crowd laughs and she beams (either with excitement or embarrassment) as he hands her phone back to her.

Not only is Brad Paisley musically talented, he’s funny too.

It’s amazing just how many songs Paisley played – all with hardly a break between. To keep up with the contagiously energetic entertainer is nearly impossible. He makes you feel like you need to catch your breath, even though you’re doing nothing but singing along.

The popular and insanely entertaining country artist is showing no signs of slowing down, and it’s safe to say we’re all OK with that. If you believe 13 is an unlucky number, know that Saturday night was anything but unlucky for Brad Paisley.

He came in full force, and proved that he’s still “Crushin’ It.”
