PC Moment: For some among the 350 guests, presentation of the Lombardi Award to University of Oregon safety Ugo Amadi was highlight of the dinner evening. For others it was the onstage conversation with NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Montana, NFL Hall of Fame safety Ronnie Lott and co-captain of the San Francisco 49ers Super Bowl XXIV team Spencer Tillman led by award-winning FOX sportcaster Tim Brando. (Tillman and Brando team up each fall calling college football games for FOX and FS1.) For Montana and Lott, the most important aspect of the evening was being inducted as Lombardi Fellows.
The awards continued with Brando honored as Legendary Broadcaster, former University of Oklahoma Coach Boob Stoops as Legendary Coach, and Jeff Monken of Army as College Coach of the Year.
The coveted Lombardi Awards are sponsored by the Vince Lombardi Cancer Foundation, which on this evening raised more than $300,000, which is earmarked for various research and treatment organizations including including Texas Children’s Cancer Center, University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center and Harris Health Cancer Treatment Centers.
