A popular dine-in theater chain is reaching for the stars with some game-changing new technology. Star Cinema Grill in the Richmond-Katy area is upping the ante with a massive Samsung Onyx Cinema LED screen.

And by massive, we mean a show-stopping, jaw-dropping 46 feet.

If you haven’t heard of this type of screen, no worries — few have, since there are only two of these cutting-edge screens in the entire world. The first immersive, ultra-sized screen was unveiled in Beijing.

“This is the largest Cinema LED screen in the western hemisphere, right here in Houston, Texas,” Jason Ostrow, vice president of development for Star Cinema Grill, tells PaperCity.

The high-end screen eliminates cumbersome projector equipment, allowing for even more seats — the Richmond one can accommodate 186 guests—  and wider views. The Onyx screen promises high dynamic range picture refinement and 4K resolution, and the light-resistant design is a huge pro, eliminating interference and disruptive distractions.

“Theater Number 1 features the Samsung Onyx screen. Guests are blown away by the amazing image on the screen. We are selling more tickets to that auditorium than any other facility,” Ostrow says.

“The Onyx screen is cinematic history, and the future of cinema.”

At this time, this is the only Onyx screen that the Cinema Star Grill theater chain has. You can expect to find the most popular movies lit up on this state-of-the-art mega-screen.

But don’t plan on just seeing one genre. Sure, it’ll make superhero movies look crisper than ever, but the new and improved screen can and will enhance any film.

“All genres can be shown and will be shown on the Onyx,” Ostrow notes. The Onyx screen made its debut last Friday with a showing of Toy Story 4.

Ostrow believes that this next-era screen fits in with Star Cinema Grill’s vibe as a whole. “The theater itself is cutting edge from a design, hospitality and technology standpoint. Guests are wowed the second they walk in the door. The décor is a combination of old Hollywood chic and high-end hotel luxury,” he says.

The walls are lined with black and white blown-up images of glamorous film icons like Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn and Marlon Brando, and plush green velvet banquettes line the gold-lit hallway leading up the bar.

Star Cinema Grill is the largest dine-in theater group in Houston and currently boasts nine locations. The owners are plotting more expansions through the greater Houston area, plus new Austin, Dallas, San Antonio and even Chicago theaters.

Star Cinema Grills may not typically be as swanky (or as expensive) as  River Oaks District‘s iPic, but with its recliner seats, premium pods featuring heated seats, extensive menu and full-service bar, this new Star Cinema Grill Richmond/Katy is upping the ante.

So, pass the popcorn and get ready for a Houston movie theater experience like you’ve never had before.

The Samsung Onyx Cinema LED screen can be found at Star Cinema Grill Richmond/Katy (22125 FM 1093.
