Ten years ago, brothers Adam and John Schlegel embarked on a culinary mission — they wanted to transform America’s breakfast scene, one A.M. eatery at a time. The result is Snooze, a restaurant concept offering innovative morning meals alongside a variety of elevated breakfast and brunch staples.
The chain operates16 locations across the nation — in California, Arizona, Colorado (Snooze’s home state), and Texas (two in Austin). Houston is the latest city to join the family.
Snooze’s signature orange signage and equally vibrant outdoor umbrellas make the Montrose Boulevard location, which opened earlier this month — impossible to overlook. The bold decor continues inside the restaurant: Tinges of orange and yellow sweep through the sprawling dining room, gracing bar stools, lamp shades and booths.
The whimsical vibe extends to the diverse menu, which includes nearly 30 entrees from categories like Flavors From the Hen (egg dishes), The Art of Hollandaise (Benedicts), Our Sammies (sandwiches), Sweet Utopia (pancakes and French toast), Light As a Feather (healthy options) and Flavor Saveurs (meal enhancements such as cheese, sauces and vegetables).
Can’t-miss dishes include Snooze’s signature breakfast pot pie (homemade rosemary sausage gravy atop flaky puff pastry, served with an egg any style — Snooze suggests sunny-side up, and we concur); the corned beef hash, made with corned beef and poblano peppers; the Bella! Bella! Benny — prosciutto, Taleggio cheese and poached eggs served on toasted ciabatta bread and topped with a cream cheese hollandaise sauce; and my personal favorite, the pancake flight, three of Snooze’s ornate pancakes on a big plate. (The sweet potato, blueberry Danish and banana pudding pancakes do not disappoint.)
Of course, cocktails are always encouraged. Snooze features a bevy of morning libations, including more than 10 different mimosas and Bellinis, as well as four Bloody Mary options, morning margaritas, micheladas, and an Old Fashioned prepared with coffee.
Snooze is open daily from 6:30 am to 2:30 pm.
