Sugar Land Food & Wine Affair
Food, wine and more wine are the order of business at this weekend’s Sugar Land Food & Wine Affair. Bovine & Barley
What could be more Texan than meat and beer? Michael Collins (The Fish, The Refinery Burgers & Whiskey) and partner Jason Lowery (Proof Rooftop Lounge) open Bovine & Barley, an urban bar and eatery centered around this scrumptious duo, Monday, April 13, at 416 Main Street. Read more

Fellini’s Fine Fare
A little piece of Italy arrives in CityCentre with the addition of Fellini Gelato & Caffe. Restaurateur Nash D’Amico (D’Amico’s Italian Market Café) opens his second Fellini location (the first is in Rice Village) in mid-July at 794 Sorella Court in partnership with Salvatore Albelice, Monica Gonzales and daughter Brina D’Amico. Inspired by Italian sidewalk cafes, the family restaurant will serve freshly brewed coffee drinks, fresh smoothies, wines, beers and Italian spritz cocktails. Paninis, salads and freshly made Italian pastries round out the menu. And what’s an Italian cafe without gelato? Fellini takes a cue from sister restaurant D’Amico’s Italian Market Café and will serve up its famous gelato.

Meet Me for Sunday Brunch
Sunday, April 19, Italian eatery Mascalzone adds a knockout Sunday brunch to its menu — only fitting, given that it’s owned by former professional boxer Andrea Magi. The menu includes staples such as eggs benedict, breakfast calzones and homemade Italian donuts, as well as more daring selections (Nutella and mascarpone pizza topped with walnuts and icing). Brunch is served Sundays, 11 am to 3 pm … After 12 years, Midtown staple The Fish Restaurant and Sushi Bar has redesigned its digs and added Sunday brunch to the menu. Deemed Hello Tokyo Sundays, the brunch menu has a Japanese spin, including octopus pancakes, spam musubi and hot sake. For the less adventurous, The Fish offers a classic brunch fare.

Blue Plate Special
Throughout April, many Houston restaurants will serve a Blue Plate Special to support The Thread Alliance as part of its third annual citywide child abuse prevention awareness campaign. Founded by Sheila Aron, The Thread Alliance seeks to end the cycle of child abuse. Participants include local favorites Adair Kitchen, Armandos, Brooklyn Athletic Club and Brennan’s of Houston. See the full list of participating restaurants here.

Now Open
Award-winning South African restaurant Peli Peli has opened a second location in the Galleria, in the space once occupied by Gigi’s Asian Bistro. Peli Peli’s first location is 110 Vintage Park Boulevard in North Houston. Stay tuned for a full feature in our May 2015 issue … In Galveston, Bryan Davis and chef Bryan Pepper, with the help of award-winning chef Randy Evans, have opened Ocean Grille at 1228 Seawall Boulevard. The fresh seafood for the menu is from the legendary Katie’s Seafood Market on 19th Street Pier. The menu also includes half-pound Wagyu beef burger, a twist on Greek salad and a rare ahi tuna flatbread. The bar serves two different frozen drinks daily and a 40-bottle selection of craft and mainstream beer. A craft cocktail program is planned for the near future.
