5 New TV Shows We Can’t Wait to Watch This Fall — Comedies, Sci-Fi, and Psychological Thrillers to Look Forward To

Fall TV season is shaping up to be pretty entertaining. From a buzzy new comedy starring two beloved Texans to ambitious adaptations, psychological thrillers, and a long-awaited return to the Blade Runner universe, there’s plenty headed to our screens in the coming months. These are the five new TV shows we’re most excited to watch this fall.

Brothers (Apple TV+)

Premieres on September 23

This is an exciting one for Texas film and TV lovers. Inspired by a real-life rumor that Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson might be biological brothers (they’ve never actually gotten a DNA test), this upcoming comedy series stars the two Texans as fictionalized versions of themselves. The eight-episode series follows McConaughey and Harrelson as their friendship is put to the test when they decide to live together with their families at McConaughey’s Texas ranch. This is also after Harrelson’s daughter’s wedding falls apart, and during his stay at the ranch, they uncover something that leads them to question if they are related. Plus, some of the scenes were filmed in Austin.

American Hostage (MGM+)

Premieres on September 20

We’re going to have to get an MGM+ subscription just to watch this new TV series starring Jon Hamm. Adapted from the 2022 scripted podcast of the same name, American Hostage is an eight-episode psychological thriller. Set in 1977 Indianapolis, the story follows radio reporter Fred Heckman (played by Hamm) as he finds himself in the middle of a life-or-death crisis when hostage-taker Tony Kiritsis demands to be interviewed on his program.

East of Eden (Netflix)

Premieres on October 1

Based on the 1952 John Steinbeck novel, this seven-episode limited series adaptation stars Florence Pugh as Cathy Ames, Christopher Abbott as Adam Trask, Mike Faist as Charles Trask, and Tacy Letts as Cyrus Trask. Directed by Zoe Kazan (who is the granddaughter of Elia Kazan, who directed the 1955 film adaptation), the TV show portrays the family saga that is set in the farmlands of the Salinas Valley in California, from the Civil War to World War I. It follows the intertwined destinies of two families (the Trasks and the Hamiltons), a retelling of Adam and Eve and Cain and Abel. This television version puts Cathy Ames at the center.

Dig (Peacock)

Premieres on November 23

Created by Amy Poehler and Michael Schur (their first collaboration since Parks and Recreation), Dig is a new comedy TV series based on the 2023 novel Excavations by Kate Myers. It follows four archaeologists who are working at an excavation site in Greece when they uncover a secret that gets them caught up in an international conspiracy. Poehler plays one of the archaeologists, Elise, while Geraldine Viswanathan, Antonia Thomas, and Fina Strazza play Dylan, Clare, and Patty. Hugh Laurie also stars as a British professor, whom Patty is the undergraduate assistant to.

Blade Runner 2099 (Prime Video)

Premieres on November 25

Another TV miniseries, this new sci-fi show takes place 50 years after the events of Blade Runner 2049. Michelle Yeoh plays a Replicant Blade Runner who is in the final days of her life, while Hunter Schafer is her partner and a human pretending to be a replicant. The sequel to the 2017 film, the series picks up in 2099 Los Angeles after an uprising. Now, the Replicants are the power brokers of the city, while humans have become second-class citizens. Olwen (Yeoh) unites with her partner Cora (Schafer) to hunt down a gang of rogue Replicants.
