Historic Dallas Hotel Unveils a Dazzling Wedding Room: Colorful Spot Figures to Become One of Texas’ Most Coveted Venues

There’s much to love about downtown Dallas’ historic Magnolia hotel, built in 1921 as the first air-conditioned high-rise in the country and Dallas’ first skyscraper: made-to-order room service menus, same-day dry cleaning, in-room Lather skincare products, complimentary milk and house-made cookies every evening …

However, it’s the Magnolia’s recently renovated Pegasus Room that’s captured our attention, especially as we approach the start of engagement season. Located across the street from the hotel in the Art Deco-style Power and Light building, the venue has long been coveted by brides and is poised to draw more with its dazzling new look.

During the revamp, dated carpet was ripped out, revealing 1930s hardwoods then restored to their former glory; a chandelier and metal wall sconces replaced old-fashioned lighting; the ballroom received fresh coats of grey and white paint; and LED light fixtures were installed, able to provide an assortment of colors to complement different events.

Inside the Magnolia’s Pegasus Room

At 3,500 square feet, the Pegasus Room features lofty 18-foot ceilings, a kitchen and storage room, and accommodates up to 250 guests. There’s also an adjacent (and very versatile) foyer space commonly used for cocktail receptions.

The Magnolia hosts between 25 and 30 weddings every year, catering manager Chris Bertrand tells PaperCity. In addition to the Pegasus room, brides can also explore the 29-story hotel’s 4,000-square-foot Magnolia lounge, or the 1,500-square-foot Atrium Level, which accommodates 100.

Whether stopping by for an appointment to tour a venue space or checking in for the weekend, there are a couple more things we should mention. A visit to the hotel’s first-story Flying Horse Café for a coffee is a must. Then, take a quick peek around the hotel — its history as the former Magnolia Petroleum Company offices (with the iconic red Pegasus flying high above Dallas) is well-documented throughout, offering a glimpse into a remarkable past.
