Dallas’ Best Indie Gyms: 5 Underrated Boutique Fitness Studios Perfect for Summer Exercise

BY // 05.31.18

Ah, sweet summer time. The temperatures are rising, pool season is in full swing, and swimsuits are suddenly a part of our daily uniform. If you’ve yet to achieve your summer body goals, it’s not too late to get started.

Here are five indie fitness studios around Dallas that will have you feeling and looking great – and, most importantly, you’ll actually want to go to these Dallas gyms.

Ballet Burn

Plié your way to a toned bod at The Ballet Burn, an independent studio which offers both classical adult ballet classes and its namesake workout, “The Ballet Burn,” a modernized barre class based on traditional techniques. Start out with one of the gym’s beginner ballet technique classes to brush up on the basics, and then try out Ballet Burn.

The studio’s signature class isn’t the ballet of your childhood, but a high-energy workout which mixes cardio and toning against a pop soundtrack.

This month, there’s one more reason to visit Ballet Burn: The studio is holding free classes at the Athleta store on Oak Lawn every Tuesday from 7 to 8 pm.

Terlingo Cycle

This boutique cycling studio has a tribe of dedicated followers among Dallas’ fit crowd. The 45-minute classes claim to take you on an “inspirational journey geared towards strengthening your heart, while cleansing your body, mind and soul.” And, of course, burn a ton of calories.

Terlingo is also known to have some of the best workout playlists in town.

One Lagree

I did One Lagree once and, no joke, I’m pretty sure I looked better afterwards. My muscles were shaking and burning for the entire 45-minute class, and I was very sore for a few days after. In other words, it really works.

Like Pilates, Lagree is a low impact, core-strengthening workout; However, it’s performed at a higher intensity, and there’s some cardio thrown in the mix. It was also a major part of Meghan Markle’s pre-wedding fitness plan.

One Lagree is one of the best spots in Dallas to get the royal workout, with its hands-on instructors, state-of-the-art equipment, and fun music.

Grit Fitness

If you’re someone who needs a little variety in their workout plan, check out Grit by Brit. The full-body boutique fitness studio offers HIIT, yoga, dance cardio, kickboxing and much more.

The studio frequently hosts free events (there’s a Free Healthy Happy Hour with Barre in Your Bedroom Friday, June 1 at 6:30 p.m.), and it’s just about to kick off its Summer Shape Up series. The Summer Shape Up plan includes four weeks of unlimited classes, goal setting activities, a meal plan template, and other tools to help you get bikini-ready.

City Surf

If the cinematic masterpiece Blue Crush taught me anything, it’s that surfer girls have killer abs. Even though Dallas is landlocked, but you can still catch a wave at City Surf fitness. The studio’s 50-minute classes provide a full body workout, building lean muscle and improving balance with stability surfboards.
