We are very excited to perform the dramatic and beautiful “Scene Andalouse” by composer Joaquin Turina of Seville, Spain (1812-1949). This work is written for piano quintet accompanying a virtuosic viola solo played by guest Rachel McDonald. Turina is musically describing southern Spain, Andalusia, known for its vibrant culture, famous for flamenco music and dance, tapas, and diverse landscapes from mountains to beaches. The rest of the program will include works of Enrique Granados and Isaac Albeniz. Our vocalists will sing songs of the Spanish language, from Spain to Mexico.
The piano quintet includes violinists LeeAnne Chenoweth and Keyreel Raskolenko, violist Claire Ross, cellist Alice Jeon-A Lee, pianist Heejung Kang. soprano Youna Hartgraves and tenor Sergio Cepeda.
