Houston’s world class shopping scene just earned another star with the opening of Ghurka, a fine leather goods emporium, in the cozy Timmons Place center on West Alabama. Ghurka has been crafting must-have, distinctive leather accessories for a half century. And now it is stepping up its game by opening a few select brick and mortar stores — only in Houston and New York City so far —while launching a custom clothing line.
There is hint on Ghurka website that another new store in Dallas is in the works. More recently Ghurka bags and other leather pieces have been available at high-end retailers stateside and in Japan. These new store openings mark the brand’s return to owned physical retail after several years without any Ghurka-operated stores.
The buzz was on during opening night festivities when Houstonians who are already devotees of Ghurka and those just learning about the brand, explored the 1,400-square-foot boutique. And, yes, the redolence of fine leather permeated the space along with hints of rhubarb and white jasmine.
Welcoming the throng were Lindsay McAshan, Ghurka’s vice president of custom sales, alongside founding stylist for the brand’s new Houston location Allison Schulze.

For the festivities Culinaire Catering provided party foods while the Graeme Francis Trio kept the jazz tunes going.
Party goers had the opportunity to preview Ghurka’s inaugural venture into custom clothing with displays of the Fall/Winter 2026 line. Jackets, blazers, shirting, rainwear and more were on display as examples of the bespoke pieces. For the custom clothing, fabrics are sourced from Loro Piana, Zegna, Ariston, Dormeuil, and more. These Ghurka pieces are handcrafted around the world depending on the design.
Schulze is the one you’ll talk to — by appointment only — when planning and ordering your bespoke pieces.
Ghurka’s leather goods are crafted from Italian full-grain, vegetable-tanned, tumbled leather selected for its durability, rich texture and distinctive character. Design is inspired by the uniforms and kit of Nepalese soldiers, who battled along with the British in various conflicts. Thus, the Ghurka name.
Whether shopping for leather goods or bespoke tailoring, this new Houston Ghurka boutique is by appointment only. Reserve a time here.
