Movie Stars and VIPs Hit Houston to Celebrate a Groundbreaking African-American Theatre’s 40th Anniversary

Who: Co-Chairs Paula McCann Harris and John Rolfe; Honorary chair Janiece Longoria; guests Mayor Sylvester Turner, State Rep. Joseph Deshotel, Janis and Judge Levi Benton, Merele Yarborough, Alaina K. Benford, Michelle and Barry Barnes, A. Renne Logans, Lynda House- McPeters, Alice Otchere, Kathy Flanagan, and Deidre and Terence Fontaine.
PC Moment: More than 600 supporters joined The Ensemble Theatre as it hosted its annual black-tie gala –– celebrating 40 years as Houston’s premier center for African-American theater. This year’s gala honored these stars in the following categories: Lifetime Achievement, Louis Gossett Jr.; Actress of the Year, Angela Robinson; Actor of the Year, Harry Lennix; President’s Award, Anna Maria Horsford; Rising Star, C.J Emmons; Founder’s Award, Mildred and Willie Bright; and corporate honorees Houston First Corporation and METRO.
Capping off the night were thoughtful words from board chair Argentina James and the sounds of the Yvonne Washington Band. Join The Ensemble Theatre as they round off the year with two more stage productions, Sassy Mamas (Sept 22- Oct 16) and The First Noel (Nov 17- Dec 30).
