Kit and Ace may be new to Houston, but it’s definitely no stranger to success. The Vancouver-based luxury retailer got its start a little more than a year ago and has already opened 20 stores across North America. With plans to open 30 to 50 shops worldwide by the end of the year, it’s clear that Kit and Ace is bringing its no-fuss luxury fashion to the forefront. Founders Shannon and JJ Wilson are the wife and son of Lululemon founder Chip Wilson, so it’s safe to say the duo had a solid foundation when they decided to apply Lululemon-like comfort and performance to luxury clothing.

Kit and Ace specializes in contemporary, comfortable basics that feel as good as they look. That means all their clothing is made with trademarked technical cashmere, which provides impeccable function. And the fabric doesn’t just tout some fancy name; it’s fairly high-tech. Unlike most luxury clothing that requires dry-cleaning, all Kit and Ace products are designed to be machine washable. Fortunately, Houstonians can now experience their designs firsthand at the brand’s newly opened Rice Village boutique at 2401 Times Boulevard. Similar to the company’s other shops, Kit and Ace Rice Village will feature a number of creative projects from local artists.

“We pride ourselves on designing innovative clothing, and we bring that same level of consideration to the buildout of our shop spaces,” explained Shannon, Kit and Ace co-founder and creative director. “As we enter new markets, we want to make sure we keep the local creative class in mind. A shopping experience that drives inspiring conversation — that’s what’s important to us.”

Featured art includes a light fixture by New Living, an iconic photograph taken by Berlin Nicolas and a forthcoming exhibit featuring artwork by Anita Varadaraju that will be showcased on “The Wall,” the store’s changing exhibition space.
