From Foodie Delights to Derby Fun to Art, River Oaks District is Much More Than Just Shopping

BY

All things new, fresh and now are popping up at River Oaks District. Art, fashion, beauty and top restaurants make this luxe wonderland an everyday destination. But it doesn’t end there.

For there is almost always something special going on at River Oaks District, too.

Take Taste of the District, which is this Sunday, April 28. From 11 am to 3 pm, many of Houston’s restaurants, plus local makers and artists, come together in an open air market highlighting the best in shopping, food and fitness for the whole family.

Hungry for more? Be sure to find find and sample good-for-you favorites from Recipe for Success’s Hope Farms Rolling Green Market and shop freshly harvested organic veggies, while enjoying tastings, and even playing games like Veggie Jeopardy, Carrot Peeling Contests and Garden Haikus. Taste of the District benefits the Recipe for Success Foundation, which combats childhood obesity by changing the way children understand, appreciate and eat their food while educating and mobilizing the community to provide them with healthier diets.

The District’s own restaurants will be delighting visitors with bites from Amalfi Ristorante Italiano & Bar, 1836: A Texas Olive Oil Company, Le Colonial and Toulouse Cafe

Want to squeeze in a weekend workout while you’re at it? Equinox is hosting two complimentary classes at Taste of the District — Best Butt Ever at 11:30 am and The Cut Kickboxing Class at 12:30 pm.

Taste of the District kicks off the spring event calendar at River Oaks District, but there’s oh-so-much more to experience. Including horse racing.

Derby at the District

Don your derby finery and plan for Derby at the District, on Saturday, May 4 from 2 pm to 6 pm.

For River Oaks District’s inaugural Kentucky Derby party, Toulouse will be serving southern-inspired bites and featuring Mint Juleps, while Derby sponsor Baccarat is auctioning a set from the Kentucky Derby Highball Collection. Between the derby hat contest and swag bags, Derby at the District is a winning way to spend race day.

Mom Time

Mom is always tops and to celebrate Mother’s Day, Harry Winston is revealing its colorful Candy Collection. The sweet selection of one-of-a-kind pieces will be available from May 10 through May 26 and features colorful gemstones such as the Pink Sapphire Ring dripping with rubies or the Spinel Ring made up of tsavorite garnets.

Harry Winston River Oaks District
You’ve never seen jewels quite like these Harry Winston stunners.

Go ahead and treat mom to something extra special this year.

Arty Fashion

Art and fashion are a dynamic duo, so River Oaks District is the ideal location for the Icons of Style photography exhibit, held in collaboration with the Museum of Fine Art Houston. The exhibit will be on display from June 23 through September 22 and features more than 200 images of fashion photography from niche artists to some of the most influential names in fashion photography.

Don’t miss the “Icons of Style” menu at Bisou in addition to nine curated window galleries that point to the exhibition.

Summer Style

Need some extra style for those spring and summer getaways? From the mountains to the beach, River Oaks has you covered. Saint Bernard’s expansive selection of swimwear, hats and summer accessories makes packing for every trip a breeze.

And if you’re lounging by pool this summer, luxe swimwear from Eres elevates every splash and splash. Owned by Chanel, Eres is its only flagship store in Texas and it’s right here in Houston at River Oaks District. The selection of high-end swimwear, resort wear and lingerie is crafted in Paris.

Caftans are here to stay, and Roberta Roller Rabbit is a one-stop shop for brilliant caftans, plus other summer essentials.

Round out your warm-weather wardrobe with Cary Grant-inspired sunglasses at Oliver Peoples’. The “North-by-Northwest” collection was made in collaboration with Grant’s estate.

Pampering Yourself

If your summer vacation (and wardrobe plans) are made, now is the time to prep your skin. The legendary Bella Rinova Salon has been beautifying Houstonians for two decades, and celebrates it 20th anniversary in July. One element of the salon’s success is due to its detailed and knowledgeable approach to beauty and skincare, led by facialist Deborah Michaelson. As the lone licensed esthetician in Houston to perform customized Biologique Recherche facials, Michaelson’s client list is long and comprised of those who appreciate the results of the bespoke facial experience.

Another way to survive summer with flawless skin is by using the products that pamper and heal, such as those at Switch2Pure. The clean beauty masters feature the popular Suntegrity line, a cult favorite among those value the benefits of holistic, mineral sun care.

New Restaurant Buzz

If dining out is among your seasonal must-do’s, then River Oaks District is the very best place to be, with new openings and happy hour specials.

The restauranteurs behind BCN Taste & Tradition bring MAD to The District in late May. This new restaurant introduces an innovative take on Madrid’s renowned cuisine.

Joining MAD in the coterie of new restaurants are Ouzo Bay, a seafood-focused Mediterranean restaurant and Loch Bar, an expansive whiskey library that also features daily live music.

Le Colonial Happy Hour
Sip for less Mondays during the summer with half-price bottles of wine.

Slow down this summer at Le Colonial with half-priced bottles of wine (under $100) every Monday or head to Hopdoddy for $5 happy hour Mondays through Fridays. Cool off with rotating beer specials from local breweries and enjoy the burger of the month, bar bites, pours from  featured breweries and wine from 3:30 pm to 6 pm every weekday.

Satiate your sweet tooth with seasonal gelato flavors from Amorino and try the innovative gelato burger. It’s gelato sandwiched between a sweet brioche bun.

You never know what you might get at River Oaks District. But you know it’s going to be different, memorable and special.

That’s the real District Life.
