From Switzerland to Your Skin: Valmont Brings Its Cutting-Edge Approach to the Galleria Saks

BY // 07.06.16

When Saks Fifth Avenue unveiled its sprawling 200,000-square-foot Galleria space in April, there was no shortage of over-the-top grandeur. The reimagined store featured stunning new interiors, a revamped restaurant concept and an expanded list of tony brands like Alaia, Erdem, Lanvin and 2015 CFD/Vogue Fashion Fund award winner Jonathan Simkai.  But one of the store’s biggest standouts was its newly minted beauty department, the brand’s second largest in the country.

Cross its threshold and a whirlwind of brands are at one’s disposal, everything from Chanel and Tom Ford to Le Labo and Aesop. But amongst all things shiny and new rests a tried and true brand so exclusive that Saks is the only department store in Houston stocking its products — Swiss skincare titan Valmont.

It’s a company steeped in history, birthed over 100 years ago in 1905 as the Valmont Clinic. The establishment was a favored destination of notables including Coco Chanel, Rainer Maria Rilke, Ingrid Bergman, and Georges Simenon, providing services like dietary consultations and hydrotherapy sessions. It wasn’t until the 1980s that Valmont expanded its repertoire to include skin-care products, focused on skin regeneration. Now the Valmont Group is dishing out some of the leading anti-aging products across the world — 43 markets to be exact, including Canada, Paris and Singapore.

So what’s so special about Valmont’s product fleet? The company uses a mix of natural Swiss resources (like glacial spring water collected at an altitude of nearly 6,600 feet) and cutting-edge science to formulate its signature offerings.

“Valmont belongs to the highest tier of products in the skincare industry, called cellular cosmetics. This category refers to skincare products which work at the cell level, as opposed to skin surface,” Valmont’s international training manager, Céline Gudit, explains. “Such energy is brought to the cells thanks to Valmont’s selection of ingredients — DNA being number one. DNA is the manager of the skin’s ability to produce elastin or collagen — the best solutions to fight against aging signs and keep skin naturally beautiful.”

Valmont extracts DNA from Canadian salmon roe — selected for its oxygenation and cellular regeneration properties.

“Valmont Laboratories remain constantly on the lookout for new methods to further enhance the action DNA. In 2012, Valmont exclusively developed a Triple DNA liposome. Triple DNA can penetrate faster and further to deliver all its regenerating and repairing properties in the greater depths of the skin,” says Gudit.

First timers and fans of the brand can head to Saks to try one of Valmont’s expansive beauty rituals (complete skin care programs for day and night), or customers can book an in-house facial in the Saks’ treatment hall.
