I recall fondly the marathon backgammon tournaments at the home of the Reverend and Mrs. Hornbuckle. His two sons and I would begin on Saturday morning, Bloody Marys in hand, and the dice would roll. These were social events, and we planned menus for each one, designed to sustain us through the evening and into early morning (we interrupted the indoor activity with rounds of croquet outdoors).
When I revive our tradition, which I plan to do in 2016, these objects will be part of the festivities.
