In from home base in Miami, the trés chic Laure Hériard Dubreuil swans through The Webster, the Galleria outpost of her iconic high-fashion boutique. Sporting a sunny orange and yellow frock from her very first collection, she defies the February calendar.
And well she should. The occasion is introduction of her newly-launched fashion line, LHD, to a savvy pride of fashion mavens, fans of labels including Dries Van Notten, Saint Laurent, Gucci and now LHD. Among them is co-host Becca Cason Thrash, stunning in a shimmery LHD cashmere sweater and iridescent Dior skirt, embodying the mix and match notion that drives LHD.
“This is a new adventure for me,” Hériard Dubreuil tells PaperCity of the bright cruise collection that includes skirts and blouses, sweaters, jumpsuits, graphic tees and more. Almost from the launch of The Webster a decade ago in Miami’s South Beach, the French native has been beseeched by clients and friends to put her curating talents to the drawing board and create her own line.
“At the beginning, I was like, ‘Are you crazy?’ I received 200 emails of brands launching every day,” she says. “I guess slowly the idea sank in and I started thinking about it and I wanted something that would really represent myself.
“I spend my time traveling so I wanted something that was related with traveling and was related with the fact that I pack and unpack and repack and unpack, very versatile pieces.”
The high-style retailer, now fashion designer, has dubbed her first collection “Miami,” thus, playful alligators that romp across fabrics and tropical florals sprouting from the seams.
Her next collection will focus on summer with the destination inspiration under wraps for the moment, though Hériard Dubreuil did acknowledge the Mediterranean as the general axis.
When asked about her favorite piece in the collection, she didn’t hesitate. “Right now. I love this dress. (The one she is wearing.) It’s really nice and very flattering. I wanted a flattering collection, feminine ”
While the colors and prints are vibrant and fresh, there is a definite retro feel to her designs.
“It’s very inspired by vintage pieces that I have,” Hériard Dubreuil says. “But I wanted also to be fresh. Not like nostalgic in the vintage feeling but more like inspired by vintage with a fresh take on it.”
