A German Soccer Star’s Furniture Company Kicks Into Dallas With High-Tech Fabrics
By Rebecca Sherman //
Last month, Germany-based furniture company Dedon opened its first Dallas showroom in Dallas Design District. A Houston location opens in late July, as part of a national rollout that includes Boston, Chicago and Miami. The 2,700-square-foot Dallas showroom includes an exterior courtyard to showcase the sought-after Orbit XXL daybed and hanging NestRest seating.
Dedon was founded in 1990 by a German soccer pro turned entrepreneur, and its high-tech synthetic fibers are woven into furniture by skilled rattan artisans on the island of Cebu in the Philippines. The combination of New World technology with Old World craftsmanship revolutionized outdoor furniture; Dedon’s woven tables and chairs are now considered iconic. The company is also known for collaborating with designers such as Philippe Starck and Jean-Marie Massaud to produce fresh looks.
For Spring 2016, Dedon has launched four new collections, including lounge seating by modular design master Toan Nguyen, who also recently created a contemporary collection for Fendi Casa. Dedon, to the trade, at Dallas Design District, 1025 N. Stemmons Freeway, Suite 675, 214.736.4906.
