Top Hotel’s New Dallas Coffee Shop Brings a Waffle Window and Promises of a Golden Ticket
When Your Caffeine Fix Becomes a True Escape

The Adolphus Hotel’s sweeping makeover is finally coming to a end after two years of hard work and painstaking renovation. The final step: Opening the famous hotel’s first coffee shop, Otto’s Coffee & Fine Foods.
The newly updated, downtown Dallas institution revealed that it will officially open Otto’s next Wednesday, April 18.
The shop is named for Otto Schubert, the charismatic and charming general manager of the Adolphus from the late 1920s to the mid 1940s. Otto’s ranges from your morning coffee stop, a rapid — yet worthy – lunch, or a midday sugar binge. The versatile spot will work with Oak Cliff Coffee Roasters to serve up an “old-world coffee experience,” such as Eiskaffee, or iced coffee, with espresso and vanilla cream, inside its Viennese-inspired cafe.
Grab-and-go is offered all day. Munch on simple, European-inspired bites, such as classic baguette sandwiches with grain and green salads, or truly emerge yourself in the culture by grabbing an apple strudel, one of the many German pastries offered. The most intriguing aspect of the cafe has to be the oh-so-perfectly named “Waffle Window.”
Walk-up tp purchase a fluffy Liège waffle served with powdered sugar and house-made fruit compote. The sweet aroma of fresh waffles will act as a trail of breadcrumbs, luring everyone within a mile radius to the window.
“There’s a deeply rooted European heritage at The Adolphus, and we’re looking forward to continuing that tradition with the first-and-only truly Viennese coffee shop in Dallas,” says Anthony Cournia, general manager of food and beverage operations.
With opening day coming up on April 18, Otto’s is celebrating Willy Wonka style. Free coffee all day Wednesday for one thing, but there will also be a golden ticket hunt. Three lucky coffee addicts will find a golden ticket at the bottom of their cups, unlocking a staycation experience in a king executive suite, $150 of food and beverage credit to be used at any of the Adolphus restaurants, including the French Room, $100 spa credit, and complimentary valet parking.
The possibility of all this just for grabbing coffee? We’re in.
Otto’s Coffee & Fine Foods, open 6 am to 7 pm daily, 1321 Commerce Street.
