Élephante Sets An Opening Date, An Australian Fro-Yo Shop’s First U.S. Outpost, 4 Harwood Spots Shutter, and More Dallas Restaurant News
The Latest Debuts and Surprising Closings
By Megan Ziots //
The Dallas dining scene is forever evolving. To help you stay in the know, we’ve gathered the buzziest openings, the unfortunate closures, and any other food news we might find fitting. This Dallas Dish is your helping of need-to-know Dallas restaurant news.
Élephante Dallas Sets An Opening Date — It’s Really Soon
You may have already seen our exclusive first look at Élephante Dallas, the Los Angeles-based coastal Italian hot spot that will open on September 1. But if not, here’s the gist. From Wish You Were Here Group (also owns Little Ruby’s), Élephante Dallas will be two stories in a standalone building at Uptown’s 23Springs — a new office building. The space will be an indoor/outdoor garden pavilion featuring lush landscaping, a centerpiece bar with a suspended canopy of illuminated wine bottles, and a dramatic curved staircase. The menu boasts Élephante staples like vodka pasta, wood-fired pizza, and whipped eggplant, but there will be some dishes that are exclusive to Dallas, as well.

A New Mexican Restaurant From the Co-Owner of Xaman Cafe Will Open on Greenville
According to the Dallas Morning News, the co-owner of Xaman Cafe, Ayahuasca Cantina, and Puerto Cocina, Mauricio Gallegos, and creative director of Coeval Studio John Paul Valverde, are opening a new Mexican restaurant at 2100 Greenville Avenue this fall. Fonda Toro will be a casual spot for tacos, sushi, coffee, and cocktails. It’s going into the former Meyboom Brasserie space.

Dallas Gets the First U.S. Location of An Australian Frozen Yogurt Shop (Actually Two)
Founded in Melbourne, Australia, in 2012, Yo-Chi is a family-run and owned frozen yogurt brand that is opening its first U.S. outpost at Dallas’ Inwood Village this fall. A second location will follow at NorthPark Center. The thing about Yo-Chi is that it’s made from fresh milk rather than powdered mixes, with live probiotics, and organic, locally-sourced acai. At the shops, guests create their own bowls from a selection of core and seasonal frozen yogurt and acai flavors. The salted butterscotch fro-yo is bound to be my favorite.
There are also more than 40 toppings, including mini mochi, pistachio spread, cookie dough, nuts, chocolate chips, and fresh-cut fruit. There’s even a hot bar featuring gooey chocolate chunk cookie cake and sauces.

Lots of Harwood District Restaurants Shutter
In the Harwood District, four of the hospitality group’s restaurants quietly, suddenly closed. No longer are Dolce Riviera, Elephant East, Poco Fiasco, or Tequila Social. According to the DMN, the company says a redevelopment is planned to keep up with the changing Uptown Dallas landscape. After two years, Harwood Hospitality recently announced that its latest restaurant, Docent Steak, will open this fall at 2801 N. Harwood Street.
