This cheekily named downtown wine bar features bottles from female winemakers. Owner Dena Shaskan personally selects vineyards for both the quality of their products and the stories behind the women-led wineries. Last year, we chatted with Dena and her husband, Trent, about their respective culinary ventures. Trent is a purveyor of sourdough loaves via Icon Breads. Dena told us her staff has “become like family.”

Salute Wine Bar

Complemented by shareable plates featuring wild mushrooms, smoked salmon, prosciutto, and other light bites that enhance red and white wines, Salute Wine Bar offers 42 handpicked wines. An advanced pouring system prevents oxidation while allowing automated pours by the half or full glass. The owners periodically host mahjong events and cater to private gatherings. Owners Jyl and John Lopez are doing a commendable job building on the popularity of predecessor 38 & Vine in a district that is set to benefit from development at nearby Westside Village.

CRÚ Food & Wine Bar

5188 Marathon Avenue

This longtime Shops at Clearfork staple is a popular destination for wine lovers seeking thoughtfully selected wines paired with carefully chosen glasses that elevate flavor and enhance aroma. More than 300 bottles are offered across a wide range of price points, while shareable plates include Argentine shrimp, Wagyu meatballs, and other chef-driven dishes. Big things are happening at this luxury shopping destination, with Piattello Italian Kitchen relocating nearby this fall.

Saddlerock Wine & Beer Co.

731 Samuels Avenue

Set in and around a restored 1800s residence overlooking the northern edge of downtown, Saddlerock Wine & Beer Co. is a charming retreat where ample outdoor seating, curated wine flights, a food truck, and weekly events like trivia night offer plenty of reasons to become a regular. Bottles from California, along with locally brewed beers, set the tone for an elegant evening complemented by unmatched views.

The Holly

With a focus on natural, sustainably produced wines, including lesser-known varietals, this relaxed wine bar is a popular destination for informal meetings and casual get-togethers with friends. Exciting things are happening around The Holly. Hiro’s Kitchen is slated to open next door by September, while the Nappotex food truck serves wood-fired Neapolitan pizzas behind this Near Southside wine bar. Neighborhood Wine is a family-owned boutique that specializes in small-production wines from around the world, with particularly strong selections from France, Italy, and the United States. Lesser-known regions are also represented, inviting guests to venture beyond familiar labels, while a tapas-style menu offers thoughtfully paired bites. Owners Chris and Nicole Curtis envisioned the Magnolia Avenue wine bar as an extension of the hospitality they enjoy sharing with friends. Private tastings, weekend live music, and wine club events give guests even more reasons to return.

WineHaus

1628 Park Place Avenue

WineHaus specializes in wines from independent producers around the world, featuring 16 wines on tap alongside a frequently rotating bottle selection. A cozy interior, spacious upstairs lounge, and inviting patio make it equally suited for date nights, happy hours, and lingering conversations. Weekly events include live jazz and Silent Book Club, where you can enjoy your favorite book and strike up a conversation with fellow bibliophiles — or just read silently.
