New Dallas Poke Restaurant Brings a Unique Twist to Food’s Hottest Trend: 13 Signature Recipes Await

BY // 07.31.18

There is yet another new poke restaurant in town – but before you pass up Mamasan House of Poké for tried-and-true Dallas favorites like Pok the Raw Bar or Malibu Poke, there’s something you should know about the newcomer. Mamasan is no one-trick pony.

Not only does it offer the ever-popular Hawaiian fish bowls for which it is named, but it also serves sushi burritos. Instead of taking the build-your-own-bowl approach, Mamasan created 13 signature recipes which are available in a bowl or in a roll.

The menu is inspired by the tradition of Hawaiian poke, infused with a wide variety of global flavors. There are a few tasty shareable items to start your meal with, like the Poké Nachos with ahi tuna, wonton chips, watermelon radish, avocado, spicy mayo and green onion cilantro pesto or the tempura green beans.

When it comes to the restaurant’s signature recipes, Mamasan starts with fresh fish which is pre-marinated in signature sauces, and pairs it with complementing veggies and greens.

The ahi tuna, for example, is served with daikon, arugula, cashew and Hawaiian red sea salt; yellow fin is paired with pineapple, napa cabbage, peanut sauce, mint and cilantro; and shrimp tempura blends with asparagus, carrot, snow peas, sesame and spicy mayo.

There are also recipes featuring chicken, pork and beef for guests who don’t like seafood, and vegetarian recipes (like Vindaloo Jackfruit).

If you choose to enjoy your dish in a bowl, the fish and veggies are served on a bed of brown rice, adzuki beans, asian greens, quinoa, black sesame, and ginger dressing. If you’re ready to roll, the wrap comes with white sushi rice and nori. Either way, make sure to stop at the Mamasan sauce bar.

As far as beverages, the restaurant specializes in cold-brewed teas like those you’d find in Japan, but it also serves beer, wine, sake and cocktails.

Mamasan House of Poké is now open from 11 am to 10 pm Sundays through Wednesdays and 11 am to midnight Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 2818 Fitzhugh Avenue.
