What: Savarese Promotions‘ “Ballroom Boxing”
Where: The Ballroom (second floor) at Bayou Place
PC Moment: Former heavyweight champ Lou Savarese and local entrepreneur Jody James stood traditional nightlife on its head with a seven-bout boxing event held amid the swank party space, on this night centered with a boxing ring. Before the sweat and blood started flying, boxing fans and VIP guests gathered on the ballroom balcony for views of downtown, premium cocktails, cigars and steakhouse treats from B&B Butchers & Restaurant.
Steakhouse owner Ben Berg was among those sampling pre-match cocktails and bites which included candied bacon, meatballs, truffled mac & cheese, cobb salad, mini beef Wellingtons and mini carpetbaggers. Ring girls clad in teeny weeny bikinis circulated the ballroom signaling the approaching sound of the boxing bell. It was all part of the re-introduction of professional boxing to downtown.
