What: The JDRF Houston 27th annual “Tee Up To Cure Diabetes”
Where: BraeBurn Country Club
PC Moment: One day it’s balmy, another it’s chilly. What’s a Houston golfer to do when wardrobe planning in winter for a charity tournament?
When it came to this fundraiser, the weather gods declared a cold and windy day. So out came the ski caps, puffer jackets, long johns and the occasional fur earmuffs. Layering was the key to this golf outing that raised $134,000 for JDRF.
David Long chaired the event that spotlighted Charlie Epps, local legend, PGA member and coach to two-time major championship winner Ángel Cabrera.
While the day began with a light lunch, the finale was a fried chicken dinner after which Epps provided amusing anecdotes and inspiring words, including “Don’t let fear stop you from reaching your dreams.”
PC Seen: Rick Byrd, David Long, Ken McDonald, John Campion, Margie Gilbert, Sharon Tuttle, Susan McFarland, Jim Peterson, Richard Rothfelder, Justin Benecke, Frank Vandiver, Travis Lauritsen, Jeff Drda, and Jennifer Sotuyo.
