Ah, the prospect of slipping into the sea blue leather hammock fashioned by Atelier Oï for Louis Vuitton‘s Ojbets Nomades collection. Imagine a half-read copy of Somerset Maugham’s Of Human Bondage on our lap as we drift off to sleep in the hammock, hung between the palms of our estate on the French Riviera.

That’s at least one approach to obsessing over the masterful collection of contemporary furnishings launched by Louis Vuitton in 2012.

Otherwise, one might simply swoon over the Campana Brothers Cocoon chairs and imagine as did Carrie Brandsberg-Dahl curling up in the swing chair with the latest issue of Vanity Fair.

Brandsburg-Dahl and husband Sverre were among several hundred invitation-only guests exploring the Louis Vuitton boutique in the Galleria for a preview of the Objet Nomades collection which will remain on view through March 7. This is the collection’s only stop in Texas and the only place to purchase one of the limited edition iconic pieces. No online shopping. No orders from abroad.

The concept is inspired by Louis Vuitton’s historic tradition of creating custom travel pieces for the cognoscenti and then partnering with of-the-moment designers including Damien Langlois-Meurinne, Raw Edges, Patricia Urquiola, India Mahdavi and Tokujin Yoshioka.

The Houston introduction to the lauded designs was a triple header with a cocktail party for Museum of Fine Arts, Houston patrons, a ladies luncheon and a second cocktail soirée — all three gatherings attended by Atelier Oï designer Patrick Reymond in from Switzerland.

“We were at the beginning with Louis Vuitton when they created this special department,” Reymond tells PaperCity. “They asked us to think about a collection of furniture that would keep the story of Louis Vuitton and its heritage of travel. We were inspired by the explorers and the last century English explorers who traveled with a lot of beautiful things.”

In an interview Christine Gervais, the MFAH’s director of Rienzi, Reymond further explained his firm’s involvement and with Louis Vuitton and the creative process

The Atelier Oï contributions to the collection began with the Taboret folding camp stool and has grown to include the swing boat sofa and spiral lamp, all of which were on display in the whimsical showroom set up midstore in the Galleria boutique.
