Houston’s Historic Manor House Hosts a Summer Party to Remember: Endless Champagne, Croquet and Schmoozing

PC Moment: The Veuve Clicquot flowed as guests, most dressed in summer whites, schmoozed across the tree-shaded lawn at the historic Manor House and tested their talents at whacking croquet balls through those little wire gates. There was more laughter and playfulness than serious competition on this late-summer afternoon.

The air-conditioned environs of the Manor House proper beckoned with an assortment of special dishes and paired wines. Executive chef Neal Cox and his team prepared crab remoulade, tempura snapper bao, smoked pork belly and more while sommelier Vanessa Boyd was on hand to discuss her wine selections  from New Zealand — Cloudy Bay Vineyard‘s Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. And then, who could resist pastry chef Catherine Rodriguez‘s  array of sweets that included chocolate chip meringue, hazelnut gianduja cinnamon cookies, tres leches shooters, cream puffs and passion fruit macaroons.
