Houston’s Most Unforgettable Party Pictures of the Year: Million Dollar Parties Stand Up to Harvey

Even with Hurricane Harvey temporarily disrupting our party plans, Houston managed to rock the night in 2017. Thanks to the Super Bowl, the partying launched with formidable force, with gallons of Cristal and caviar consumed and Houston’s “party city” cachet confirmed.
Throughout the year, despite the oil slump, the charitable engine that feeds our social lives roared. By the winter/spring season’s end, the city had marked up more than 20 events that had each raised more $1 million for important causes ranging from education to health care to the arts.
Houston’s party people essentially took the summer off, moving their attention to the playgrounds of Aspen, Nantucket, Santa Fe and Pebble Beach. And then Harvey arrived.
As crushing as the hurricane flooding was, spirits revived and the fall season was punctuated with several million dollar-plus fundraisers. Topping the list was Houston Methodist’s biennial gala which soared to $3 million in proceeds. The Menil Collection’s 30th anniversary gala scored $2.5 million while the Ambassadors for Texas Children’s Hospital holiday party saw presentation of a $1.8 million dollar check. The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston Grand Gala Ball earned $2.3 million for the museum while the MFAH Art of the Islamic Worlds gala brought in $1.6 million. And the Children’s Museum of Houston nudged a million by raising $975,000.
While the money flowed in for worthy causes, a good time was had by all, as evidenced by the collection of our favorite party photos of 2017. Enjoy!
