Jetsons, NASA Astronauts and Space Aliens Galore Party in Houston: This Cosmopolitan Bash is Out of This World

We can’t be sure, but we would bet that no other city is more costume crazy than Houston as was evidenced most recently at the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft‘s “Martini Madness! A Space-Age Soirée.”

Both the Jestsons and NASA astronauts would have felt right at home among their doppelgängers that filled the craft museum’s exhibition space, turned into party central.

Leading the parade of costumed characters were HCCC executive director Perry Price and his wife Rosemary, he in a convincing astronaut helmet and she in a dark tulle skirt embellished with tiny blinking lights that recalled a starry night.

On the other hand, Martini Madness chairs Kyle Dutton, Mike Mahlstedt, Libby Cagle and Lauren Taft followed the optional dress code of cocktail attire, though Cagle’s dress was silver metallic as if reflecting moonlight.

Winning the night’s costume competition were Robin Pilcher and Kelly Jones, who channeled a glamorous alien and Woody Allen’s robot from Sleeper, respectively; Edward Lane McCartney and David Gooding in matching silver space suits; and Kathleen and Jeff Zinn, she costumed as a convincing space vixen and he as an astronaut.

They looked right at home in the out-of-this-world Cosmic Lounge where laser lights twinkled overhead as guests sipped their Cosmic Cosmopolitans and Martian Martinis courtesy of Deep Eddy Vodka. As is tradition with this bash, the receptacles for the drinks were handmade martini glasses contributed by artists from Houston and across the country. More than 200 artfully designed glasses, there for the taking, greeted guests as the entered the museum doors.
