PC Moment: Television host, author and breast cancer survivor Joan Lunden shared the story of her battle with the disease and the transformative effect it had on her life. She also spoke on her work in Washington D.C. as an advocate for patients across the country. The event, attended by more than 750, many in the real estate business, is held each year in honor of the late Nancy Owens, a real estate agent for 25 years before losing her battle with breast cancer in 2001.
Proceeds benefit breast cancer research in the Houston area. In addition a donation of $105,000 was presented to Matthew Ellis of the Lester and Sue Smith Breast Center at Baylor College of Medicine, Dr. Elizabeth Mittendorf of M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, and Alessandro Grattoni of the Houston Methodist Research Institute, the Department of Nanomedicine.
Alyson Haas was recognized with the Nancy Owens Spirit of Courage Award, an honor presented each year to an individual who has shown extraordinary courage in the face of a cancer diagnosis.
