What: The Jung Center Spring Benefit

Where: River Oaks Country Club

PC Moment: Nourishing the human spirit, lifelong friendships, philanthropy and mental health were the powerful elements of the dinner evening, which was chaired by Dorothy and Malcolm Paterson, Lourdes Hernandez and Randy Hulet. The interwoven friendships of all involved, including honoree Terry Huffington, set the stage for guest speaker Dr. Brené Brown, whose endowed chair at the University of Houston School of Social Work was funded by the Huffington Foundation.

A New York Times best-selling author, Brown spoke on her most recent No. 1 bestseller, Dare to Lead.

The Huffington Foundation provided the seed money last spring for the Jung Center’s Mind Body Spirit Institute, other contributors soon followed, and in December, the foundation announced a $1 million gift to the institute, the largest gift to the Jung Center since its founding in 1958. That program is headed by Dr. Alejandro Chaoul, with whom Dorothy Paterson and Lourdes Hernandez developed a special relationship during their coinciding cancer treatments at M.D. Anderson.

The $350,000 raised will assist the Jung Center in continuing its highly-regarded educational programming for improved mental health and wellness.
