Playgrounds for Seniors Headed to Houston
A Fab Octogenarian Wants to Get Everyone Moving
By Shelby Hodge //
What: Great Age Movement luncheon
Where: The St. Regis Hotel
PC Moment: Unfortunate but how telling that one of the key speakers, fabulous octogenarian Carmen Dell’Orefice, had taken a bad fall and was unable to attend the event that focused on keeping the elderly moving. Geriatric rehabilitation therapist Fritz McDonald founded the non-profit that advocates for establishing “senior playgrounds” in public parks with equipment and exercise programs targeted to those in their golden years.
Speaking in support of the program were honoree Welcome Wilson Sr., French actress and glam octogenarian Liliane Montevecchi, Carolyn Farb and Gordon Bethune, who presented the mayoral proclamation naming it Great Age Movement Day in Houston.
Who: Ernie Manouse, Philamena and Arthur Baird, Peter Martino, Karen Degeurin, Jessica Rossman, Graydon Parrish and Scott Ballew, Joanne King Herring, Bubba McNeely, McKay Otto, George Lancaster, Jo and Jim Furr, Shirlee Jamail, John Jamail Jr., Marguerite Schwartz, Jessica Holloway, Barbara Reyna, Michelle Reyna, and Kristen Bachman.
