What: Dec My Room and Kid’s Meals “Kick Up Your Boots for Kids”
Where: Redneck Country Club in Stafford
PC Moment: Roger Clemens knocked it out of the ballpark for the two charities by putting himself, so to speak, on the auction block. His package included golf and lunch for four with him at Carlton Woods, hitting/batting practice with him and an autographed cowboy hat. It sold three times for a grand total of $15,000, helping push proceeds to an estimated $200,000.
That was a happy start to the evening for chairs Karen DeGeurin and Peter Remington. They oversaw the night of non-stop action with a Pinto Ranch fashion show (perfect pre-rodeo timing), a Mark Chesnutt concert and live auction under the gavel of former radio talk show host Johnny Bravo.
No skinny reeds on this catwalk. The models were area celebs, glamorous in their own right. They included Cindi and Dr. Franklin Rose, Melissa and Brad Juneau, Laurie and Tracy Krohn, Jenn and Chad Pinkerton, Pam Morse and Dan Pastorini and Nina and Karun Magon.
While KTRK’s Katherine Whaley served as emcee, Dec My Room founders Susan Plank and daughter Kendall Plank made the appeal for support along with Kids’ Meals executive director Beth Harp. Adding serious bling to the evening was Franco Valobra, who contributed a $12,000 cognac diamond ring for raffle. The lucky winner? Public relations maven Kim Padgett.
Boot scooters: Mike Plank, Nellie Connally and Doug Dawson, Patti Murphy, Dr. Roland Maldonado, Michael Mithoff, Janeen and Julian Fertitta, April and Wells McGee, Tina and Sam Governale, Julie and Tony Sanchez, Marguerite and Bruce Culpepper, Kim and Barry Klein, and Edward Sanchez.
