PC Moment: Artists and fashionistas showcased their love of vintage kimonos at Tina Zulu‘s one-day trunk show. A fresh take on the historical piece of clothing, “Floating World” brought attention to the culturally rich world of vintage kimonos. Friend to the art world and PR maven Tina Zulu drew inspiration from her Filipino background as well as the Edo period in Tokyo for her series created in collaboration with up-and-coming designers and visual talents including featured headliner Selven O’Keef Jarmon. Party-goers listened to the cool beats of DJ Josh Zulu (Miz Zulu’s hubby) while participating in the special giveaway chance to win a coveted kimono from the collection during the reception. CAMH director Bill Arning and Mark McCray felt the #kimonofever and left with their own vintage pieces to wear.
Who: Host gallerist Cindy Lisica; Kimono Zulu collaboration artists Dandee Warhol, Jennifer Gabiola, Christy Karll, Royal McGee, Soi-K, Katsola, Rene Cruz, and Mina Gaber; Desrye Morgan; Jasmine Jasarevic; Henry Hunt; AIA director Rusty Bienvenue; Kimono Zulu muse Zoe Jackson-Jarra; Pondicheri’s Alexa Hernandez; Khaya Laidley; handbag designer Debra Linse; and collector Judy Borrell.
