It was “throwback (way back) Saturday” at the Hilton Post Oak when this party crowd fully embraced the “Flashback to the ’40s” theme. The costumes, the music, even the menu gave a nod to the era of boogie woogie bugle boys, all for the benefit of the Mission of Yahweh.
Gen. George Patton and his military aid, aka Dan and Kim Moody, took top honors for their authentic U.S. Army uniforms while chairs Mary Ann and David McKeithan and Kathi and Bill Rovere dressed the roles of ladies and gents from the era. Honoree Sybil Roos, who served as a Wave in World War II, replicated her uniform, courtesy of Saks Fifth Avenue. And honorees Samantha Kennedy and Julie Pitts channeled glam movie stars a la Rita Hayworth.
Richard Brown transformed his orchestra into a Glenn Miller sound-alike while Linda Lorelle and Mel Keike cut a swath across the dance floor that earned them best dancer trophies.
And then there was the menu — a delicious tribute to feel-good food. Think fried chicken, meatloaf, mac and cheese, green bean casserole, loads more, and the piece de resistance, Coke floats.
Flashbacking: Betsy Garlinger, Trini Mendenhall, Hannah and Cal McNair, Maryann and Jodi Hoffer, Valerie and Bill Meek, Phyllis Williams, Cheryl Byington, Angie and Cliff Roberts, Vicki Rizzo, David Kennedy, Charity Yarborough, Beth Wolff, Charlie Hartland, and Betty and John Hrncir.
