Wigging Out in Houston Makes for a Hair-Raising Party: Zany Women, Zany Wigs and a Heartfelt Mission

Move over Hair Balls and Big Hair Balls to make room for one of the most fun, whackiest coiffure-oriented fundraisers around, “The Hair-Raiser.” Close to 200 Wig Out supporters donned their zaniest wigs for the evening that took over LIFEHTX in a rainbow of tresses.

With party girls Courtney Hopson, Melissa Mithoff, Elizabeth Petersen and Kara Vidal as chairs, this soirée was ramped up even before the light show started cutting through the swank Montrose party venue. Dressing for the occasion, guys and gals donned artificial coifs in all the colors in a Crayons box including blue violet, carnation pink, red violet and yellow orange.

Best wig honors went to Mikki Talley in a silvery wig embellished with flowers. Followers-up in order were Ally Shell with a shaggy cut covering her eyes, Donae Chramsota in silver shimmering wig and Michael Mithoff in a purple and green mohawk. Oh, my!

Behind the fandango, there was a serious mission.

Wig Out executive director Nancy Riviere, founded the nonprofit, following two bouts with breast cancer that left her fully understanding the needs of men and women who lose their hair during cancer treatments. The group provides wigs, headscarves, hats, toiletries, makeup and skincare tutorials for those suffering from the side effects of cancer. In partnership with Harris Health System and M.D. Anderson’s oncology program at LBJ Hospital, Wig Out is taking the mission mobile via lavender WOOW (Wig Out on Wheels), a cheerfully decorated and fully-stocked traveling wig salon.
