The Worst Golf Clothes in the World Bring in $500,000 for Texas Children’s Hospital: These Aren’t Just Bad Pants

The competitors outdid themselves with such wacky golf attire for the 20th annual Texas Children’s Hospital‘s Bad Pants Open, it’s a wonder they could concentrate on their drives and putts. Think bell bottoms, gold lamé and gawd awful prints.

The pay-off for some of golf’s worst fashions came in the form of $500,000 raised for Texas Children’s Newborn Center, the hospital’s level IV neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) for the smallest and sickest babies.

Imagine that for two decades, otherwise nattily-clad golfers have donned zany costumes and hit the links with prizes going for the best scores and for the worst golf pants. The most recent incarnation took place at the Clubs of Kingwood where a sellout contingent of 340 really badly dressed golfers played across three courses.

While the morning into evening event was presented by RBC Wealth Management/Capital Markets, Rob Cooksey, vice president of Texas Aromatics, chaired the well-fed fundraiser. There was breakfast from Chick-Fil-A, on-course lunch from Beck’s Prime and dinner catered by A Fare Extraordinaire.

The dinner and awards ceremony honored Allyson Johnson, an NICU nurse at Texas Children’s Hospital The Woodlands, as Nurse of the Year. Golf winners — both the best and the worst — received plates painted by Texas Children’s patients.

Joining the day were Bad Pants Open founders Moose Rosenfeld, Mike Armstrong and Michael Wiesenthal. Since its founding, the event has raised close to $6.5 million for Texas Children’s Newborn Center.
