Experience the joie des fleurs at the Dallas Museum of Art's annual Art in Bloom
For some, it’s the first warm breeze, chirping bird, or blooming tree that happily marks the arrival of springtime in Dallas. For us, it’s always the Dallas Museum of Art League’s annual fundraiser, Art in Bloom, which will take place this Sunday, March 31.
Few things can put us in the mood for spring more than a brunch and celebration of all things floral while helping fund the museum’s exhibition and education programs, as well as the DMA League’s floral endowment fund.
In its 20th year, the annual event has embraced the infectious mood-lifting abilities of flowers with its theme, Joie des Fleurs, and a new format that will allow more patrons to partake than ever before — perhaps Dallas will have a super bloom of our own.
In addition to live jazz entertainment and an exhibition of floral arrangements by local designers, event chairman Eleanor Bond and honorary chairman Beverly Freeman have arranged for there to be two brunch seatings (one at 10:30 am and one at 1 pm in the Atrium) and two seatings in the Horchow Auditorium (one at 12 pm and one at 2:30 pm) for demonstrations by renowned floral designer, Françoise Weeks.
The Belgium-born artist, now based in Portland, Oregon, has garnered a global following for her signature style of Textural Woodlands and Botanical Haute Couture pieces, wearable works of art that take technical mastery to a new level.
Attendees of this year’s Art in Bloom will get to hear from Weeks, whose prominence as a floral designer has brought her to the Flower School Cohim in China, the Academy of Floral Art in Exeter, England, studios in Australia and Mexico, workshops at Mayesh and Florabundance, and to the La Jolla and Memphis garden clubs.
Her work has been published in Nacre, Fusion Flowers, Modern Wedding Flowers, Huffington Post, Flutter, and Millieu.
In addition to the main event, families visiting the museum during Art in Bloom will get to experience the joy of flowers with a number of floral-inspired activities, including an artist demonstration in the Fleischner Courtyard and crafts in the Center for Creative Connections.
